The SHIRK of Superstition
From Abdullah Battar - email
Sir,
I am quite impressed with you understanding of Islam. I do not believe in superstitious things but I experienced a rather different thing. My sister was suffereing from a disease just like "chicken pox" in the older age which was quite apparant and painful. We approached different doctors and skin specialists, they presciribed different medicines but all in vain. They even responded that it is a natural phenomenon and will automatically be cured in due course of time. We were quite deseperate and dejective. One of our relative referred us to a lady in a remote village in Gujranwala, who said to be blessed with the special ability to cure this kind of disease miraculously. I was reluctant to go there but I could not stop myself to approach the lady and quite astonished with the result of her "dum" and the disease disappeared within few hours. Our case was not the single one, many of our relatives got themselves cured without taking medicine. She did not demand anything but we gave here 200 rupees which she accepted reluctently.
I want to get to know what is happening here. Is it a miracle or something else.
I am quite embarrassed please help me.

Dear brother,
These are stray chances which people magnify, keep repeating, and incite people into SHIRK.
Now you are spreading a dangerous superstition. I doubt your description of A FEW HOURS.
Does this DUM woman ever get sick? Is she immortal? Go to her again two three times and see her failing.
Sheikh Sa'di said, "Peers do not fly. Their disciples make them fly."
Please ask forgiveness from Allah for committing and spreading SHIRK.
Sincerely,
Dr. Shabbir

Salaam Aleikum,
Even if she could influence Bio-fields, and would thus be a person who can work the Quantum Field, as explaine din this article:
http://ourbeacon.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=42
Then she still must be examined and tested. Some people have strong psychological influences and thus work as a placebo.
Like the Dr said, if you really want to understand this, go observe her for a couple of days, and then observe her patients, see if they really are cured for good.
All superstition will faill when investigated through the scientific method. Some 'healers' who do make the test, turn out to be people who can influence Bio-Fields, which is a new field in science.
All in all, it has NOTHING to do with the supernatural.

Please help me understand how being cured by "non-traditional" medicine equates to shirk. Are you suggesting that prior to the advent of traditional medicine no diseases were ever cured?
Perhaps an explanation of a "dum" would help me to better understand.

Respected Brian, AA
DUM means chanting some Qur'anic verses and blowing on a glass of water, then drinking it. This is a very common practice by unscrupulous Mullas in India and Pakistan.
It was no alternative medicine. Superstitions like this vest supranatural powers in mortals, hence, SHIRK.
Did you notice the cure within a few hours after DUM?

Dr. Shabbir,

If you don’t mind, can you explain about “Quranic Sonic Crystal” provided by Dr. Shabbir Ahmed, I saw some people here keep in their houses for BARAKAH (blessing).
Thanks

Salam,
It would be nice to get an answer to the above post. Frankly speaking, my family has lost trust in Dr. Shabbir due to his involvement with these magic "sonic crystals". Last time I checked, we humans cannot hold back Allah's blessings nor take it. Objects with the power of giving blessings when all power belongs to Allah?

Dear brother,
Please do not confuse science with magic.
For example, Aspirin relieving your headache is not magic.
This brief response should be sufficient.
We still have to learn a lot about things like sound, ultrasound and laser etc.
Please remind me what I have written about the Sonic Crystal on the website.
Losing trust in a life-long student is no big deal. It's fine.
Let us not enter into arguments and violate the forum policy.

Salam,
I thank you for responding to Abdullah's post. Please do not misunderstand me for arguing for the sake of arguing, as I have no such interest. Also don't misunderstand my strong words as animosity; I only meant to be straightforward.
I can barely read Urdu and have absolutely no knowledge of Arabic, let alone the type used in the Qur'an. As such I am completely dependent on the translations that are available. I do not read other translations of the Qur'an because I have difficulty in trusting the author's sincerity considering the content often seems so very unappealing to the mind. So I'm sure that you can understand if I am rather cautious that my source to Islam is not "tainted".

Salaam Noman,
You are completely right and justified to ask these things. I have read alot about experimental sound therapy and magnetic therapy. There are many misunderstandings surrounding it.
That certain people misunderstood it for barakah giving because of not understanding the science behind it is understandable and forgiven.
But then they also must call asperine barakah-pills :D
