What is the Deen, System of Life, according to the Quran, and how and why is Islam a challenge to Religion?

Why is dog not Halal?

Post by Dr. Shabbir »

A reader has called asking me how dog could be Haram if we do not accept Hadith.

Such friends forget that they are incriminating the Qur'an of being incomplete.

5:1 O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Fulfill your pledges and obligations. Permitted for you for food are all quadrupeds of livestock with the exceptions named (5:3). Allah has ordained that all hunting is prohibited during Hajj. Verily, Allah Ordains as He deems fit. [‘Baheema-tul-An’aam’ = The herbivorous cattle = Plant-eating quadrupeds]

Also, the Qur'an uses an important term TAYYAB = Clean = Aesthetically sound = Of your choice.

So, one does not have to eat all things that are Halal. One may prefer lamb over beef or chicken over lamb.
