2:158 Indeed, (Mount) As-Safa and (Mount) Al-Marwah are among the Symbols of God. So, there is no blame on a pilgrim or a visitor to go around them. If anyone volunteers to do acts of welfare, then most certainly, God is Appreciative, Knower. [.........There is nothing wrong in honoring such historical relics........]

Question 1: Which action of “pilgrim” or a visitor is being approved here by God?
Question 2: “to go around them”... How many times?
Question 3: “honoring such historical relics”....Why this act is explained as “honoring” but not as ritual?

Dear mrazik,

The text within brackets answers your questions.

[Abraham and Ishmael worked in the region of Mount Safa and Mount Marwah in Makkah, building the Ka’bah. There is nothing wrong in honoring such historical relics - 2]

1. The act of going around Safa & Marwah.

2. Number of times? Left open - although traditionally pilgrims go around them seven times as perhaps you know.

3. If the Quran calls something 'Sh'aaer' (Symbols), it becomes honorable.
Wassalam,
