Dear Shoaib Ali,

You also ask the following question to complete your inquiry. What is the insignificance of Shabe Barat?

A sense of curiosity is the nature's original school of education. As long as we keep searching answers come.

Regards.

According to tradition:

The special virtues of the night of Barãt are:

1. Contrary to other nights wherein Allah descends to the lowest Heaven to bestow His special blessings during the last third of the night, on the night of Barãt the special rain of mercy and forgiveness from Allah Ta’ãla begins to shower down right up till dawn.

2. The sins of countless people are pardoned.

And how beautifully does the Magnificent Quran shatter this myth:

42:25 And He it is Who accepts repentance from His servants, and pardons their ill-deeds and He knows all you do. (‘Taubah’ = Repentance = Coming to the right course and taking corrective action. Pardon = Blotting out the unfavorable imprints on the human “Self’).

42:30 Now whatever calamity befalls you, is a consequence of your own actions and He pardons a great deal. (If mankind harmonize themselves with Divine Laws, their Systems would run as orderly as the rest of the Universe does).

33:73 And so it is. (After making the Laws clear, and giving them the free will, Allah holds mankind accountable for their actions). Allah imposes suffering on the hypocrite men and hypocrite women, and the idolaters and idolatresses. And so it is too that Allah pardons believing men and believing women, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

4:43 (Those who attain belief shall promptly establish the Divine System in the community, and the Masjid would assume the role of the community center. The believers will assemble in the Masjid for prayer, and to address social welfare and community action). O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Join not the Salat congregation if your mind is beclouded for any reason, until you understand what you utter, else you might say senseless words that disturb the assembly. Physical cleanliness contributes to moral purity. So, take a bath after ceremonial impurity (post-coital state). If you are traveling, or are ill, or coming from the privy, and cannot find water, take a little clean sand or earth and lightly rub your faces and hands, before entering the Masjid. (This will help you prepare psychologically for the assembly 5:6). Allah pardons and absolves your imperfections.

So the metric is one's initiative to improve his/her Self, and to take corrective action, not stay up all night and worship his/her "nigaar" in hopes of being forgiven.

It is clear that one's reward/punishment is a logical outcome of one's actions, so how could an illogical concept of shab-e-baraa'at be one's hope of salvation?
