Dear Muslim Brother and Sister,

It is requested please do not send any email or greeting or SMS on English New Year, it is developed by Christians and Yahudi, break their customs and spread Islamic customs.

Happy New Year???

Post by Saleena »

Too late!

By adopting a separatist attitude religionists continue to isolate themselves from mainstream society. It is very much like the political climate around the time of the Mutiny in India. There many Muslims had a similar attitude. 'Don't educate yourselves. Don't learn science. Don't learn European languages. It is all Western and thus anti-Islamic!'

If Muslims are so concerned about islamic 'purity', then they are going to have to do a lot more than refuse to say 'Happy New Year'. They're going to have to give up the hijab, the long beard, belief in saints, belief in holy water, ritualism, miracles, priesthood ... the list goes on. After all, some of these are Judeo-Christian concepts, some are pagan (correction: all are 'pagan'). None of them are 'Islamic'.

Well done, Saleena!

In my humble opinion, year is just a timeframe. Happy New Year.

Happy New Year???

Regarding "Happy New Year". Can we major on the majors and not major on the minors? In other words, wishing a person in the West "Happy New Year" is not even a ripple on the pond. As a Christian, I do not have a hang-up to wish you the best when you enter Ramadan, spend time with your families and refresh your beliefs. This issue is a matter of individual conscience in my mind. This is not the broad stroke of the brush for the Ummah.
