Me and Mateen were discussing 4:34 when something hit us. In 4:34 it is said to leave their mazajii.
Mazajii comes from Dzajaa which means:
to incline to setting, incline, slumber, way of reclining, bed-fellow, sleeping room, sleeping bed, bedroom
To obey this verse, the house must at least have several rooms so we can apply to this verse. As we must have another room for the husband to sleep in. Verse 4:34 is talking about a long period of discussing, and this is to solve the disputes. Because a husband can't sleep on the couch for 4-5 months, this means a spare room must always be avaible. So let's say a couple has 2 kids. Then the house must at least has 2 rooms for the kids, 1 bedroom and 1 spareroom.
Following the protection of life and wealth the Qura’n also provides the right to safety of residence. The allegations Qura’n lays at the feet of Jews is this ‘You are the people who unjustly murder and drive out people from their homes 2-85’. Hence to provide roof over the head is also an obligation of the State and to deny it is an abrogation of the individual’s basic right.
Also in 5:6 it said that we must have access to a water and to a toilet.
Although it is logical that every house should have this. In many many countries people don't have this, and a lot of those countries are Muslim. There are more verses in the Quran that indirectly give us clues what are the minimums of housing and what they should contain.
