Grief Purposelessness

Salam Aleikum,

There are at least two internally recognizable ways to be absolutely certain that one’s actions lie in contradiction to Quranic Teachings. The first is experiencing grief in one’s heart; that poisonous feeling of simultaneous heaviness and emptiness of the heart. Taken to the extreme, and a person may feel as though the whole of the universe may fit inside their chest and yet it still would not fill the wide, empty and burning expanse that lies therein. Indeed when one’s actions run counter to the Devine Laws, then in fact one consumes nothing but emptiness and a burning fire that turns to ash the contents of one’s heart. And no amount of emptiness shall fill the void of such a heart. Its like being stranded in the middle of an ocean and finding within one’s midst all the water in the world; but not a drop to drink since it would only make us more deprived of water (due to the fact we would have taken in more solutes than we can filter out). And just as junk food provides no nutritional value for our bodies (hence the term “empty Calories”), actions that run counter to the Devine Laws provide no nutritional value for our Selves. And from this hellish state of emptiness and burning does the human call out to Allah, to which He responds:

10:12 When affliction befalls man, he cries unto Us, whether he be lying, or sitting or standing. But when We have relieved him of the affliction, he goes his way as if he had never cried unto Us for what afflicted him. Those who trespass the Divine Laws, lose discernment and even their ill deeds then seem fair to them.

Another way to be certain that one’s actions are in contradiction to Quranic Teachings is when one can recognize no connection with Allah (in terms of Support, obviously not meant is a Prophetic Devine connection) and subsequently recognizes no feeling of purpose in their actions. Since Allah creates nothing without Purpose, as understood through His Will, and since Islam is a reflection of Allah’s Will, a Muslim, being a creation which tries in its limited capacity to take on the Character or Hue of Allah, must not act in a purposeless manner. Doing so would cause us to lose the Support of Allah as He states:

69:43 It is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
69:44 And if he had ascribed his sayings unto Us.
69:45 We would have taken him by the right hand.
69:46 And would have cut off his Aorta.
[‘Wateen’ = Artery of the heart = Life line = Life-artery = Strength = Revelation to the Prophet. This implies that no true Prophet could possibly propagate falsehood]
69:47 And none of you could stop Us from doing that.

And while this may not directly lead to a grieving heart, it serves as a warning of sorts: the calm before the storm of our own making. A calm the length of which would be well defined by the Law of Respite and a storm the intensity of which would be well defined by the Law of Requital.

And so this is why a believing human is said to have no grief and to live in complete security:

2:265 The likeness of those who spend their wealth sincerely seeking Allah's Approval and to strengthen their own 'Selves', is the likeness of a lofty garden with springs. When rain smites it, it doubles its yield, and if there is no rainfall the sprinkles are sufficient. Allah is ever Watcher of what you do.

2:266. Would any of you wish that he had a beautiful, bountiful garden of dates and vineyards with rivulets flowing underneath it, but while age catches up on him and he has feeble offspring, a fiery tornado suddenly strikes and consumes it? This is how Allah wants you to reflect upon the Long Term. Your contribution to the society ensures you the Garden which neither a tornado, nor a hurricane can take away from you (15:48).
