The Legend of Gabriel

Post by 1RationalThinker »

The legend has it that God created a realm of personal beings other than mankind to show off to all creatures what he was capable of doing, and how he worked in the universe.
Never think that man was ever the highest form of creation. The distance between man and the lower form of life is filled with beings of various grades, so it is possible that between man and God there exist creatures of higher than human intelligence and power.

According to the Jewish teachings, Gabriel is one of the four archangels who generally delivers the message from God to His prophets. Gabriel has known to appear to certain chosen people who have the ability to see through their eyes of imagination. Throughout the history of Ibrahimic religions, Gabriel has appeared to help the prophets as ordered by God in dreams and visions, although science does not believe the human eye is capable of seeing a non-material thing or object.

Gabriel has been named in both Jewish and Christian scriptures. He appeared to Daniel, Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, as well as to Mary, the mother of Jesus. He is called the "angel of the LORD" in the Bible. He appeared to Joseph a number of times as the angel of the LORD.
The angel Gabriel now “Jibraeel” is mentioned by name in Quran:
"Say: Whoever is an enemy to Jibraeel -- for he brings down the revelation to your heart by Allah's will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings for those who believe -- whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and apostles, to Jibraeel and Mikael (Michael) -- oh, Allah is an enemy to those who reject Faith" (2:97-98).
"And truly this is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds, which the trustworthy spirit (Jibraeel) has brought down to your heart, in order that you may be warned in plain Arabic language" (Quran 26:192-195).
“Say, the Holy Spirit (Jibraeel) has brought the revelation from your Lord in Truth, in order to strengthen those who believe, and as a Guide and Glad Tidings to Muslims” (16:102).
The Angel Jibraeel would often appear in the human form to prophets. At other times, he would share revelation by voice only. Umar related that a man once came to a gathering of the Prophet and his Companions -- nobody knew who he was. He was extremely white with white clothing, and jet-black hair. He proceeded to sit very close to the Prophet and questioned him in detail about Islam. When the Prophet replied, the strange man told the Prophet that he had answered correctly. It was only after he left that the Prophet told his Companions that this was the Angel Jibraeel who had come to question and teach them about their faith. So, there were others who were able to see Jibraeel when he was in human form.
The Prophet Muhammad, however, was the only one who saw Jibraeel in his natural form. He described Jibraeel as having six hundred wings, that cover the sky from the earth to the horizon. One other time he was able to see Jibraeel in his natural form during his legendary journey to the ‘seventh heaven’.
