Barbarism: where does it come from?

Assallamo alaikum warahmatullahe wabarakatuh

The word barbarism is highly misleading which is used by our media and majority do not know who were the berbers and what did they do for the cause of Islam. Since they accepted Islam and exerted all out efforts to make Morocco, Tunis, Algeria and many other parts of that area Muslims, enemies of Islam defamed them as cruel and aggressors which is quite contrary to the facts and full of distortions.

Since our enemies cannot swallow Islam, the religion of peace and bounties they brand and marque Muslims as belligerent and hostile. You will see how a young berber put his life in danger and whole Maldives converted to Muslim from Hindu religion. No sword was used. The reality is that Islam was never ever imposed on any nation or individual. On the contrary its attraction itself is more than enough for a sane man to think the realities because of its natural teachings and principles. Allah Jallashanuh Himself guides and shows His obedient human beings and choses them to become believer and in return He the most Exalted will rewards them in this world and in the hereafter. The condition is that one must be curious of right path and ask Allah to show him the teachings of Islam and Quran. One must read the life of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) to go to the right directions.

The word barbarism is totally deceived, Berbers produced Imam Ghazali (Rahimahullah) who is known to every Muslim as writer of Ahahuloloom. Inb Khuldoon, a renowned Muslim Scientist was also berber, Jamae Zatoon is very famous Islamic University older than Jamaer Azhar, another historic accomplishment. Their achievements are countless and can not be easily expressed in words, They are beacon of lights and historians (if not racist) cannot forget their endeavors in spreading the lights of Islam, knowledge and science.

It is reported that Amr Inb Aaas (Radhiallaho Anhu) after conquering Egypt sent his cousin Uqba bib Naseer (RA) to invite Moroccans and around towards Islam. As a result berbers became Muslims. They helped Tariq Bib Ziad in overpowering bad ruler of Spain and thus Spain became the most prestigious part of Islamic word for centuries. They helped Yusuf ibn Tsashufin , Almoravid ruler.

To cite examples of berers we can imagine how deeply they loved Islam.

1.
ISLAM IN MALDIVES

Did you know that Maldives islands inhabitants became Muslim as a result of one Muslim man’s endeavors who also rid them of the demon that haunted them?

This man is Sheikh Abul Barakat Yusuf who is a Moroccan Berber. He introduced Islam to them alone in 1153 AD with no army, infantry, or ammunition; he used the Quran alone.
The traveler and scholar Ibn Battuta, who passed by the islands during the 14 century and worked as a judge for some time there, in his famous book, Tuhfat an-Nuzzar fi Ghara’ib al-‘Amsar wa ^Aja’ib al-‘Asfar" تحفة النظار في غرائب الأمصار وعجائب الأسفار " (A gift to those who contemplate the wonders of cities and the marvels of traveling), commonly known as The Rihla ( الرحلة), said that trustworthy Muslims among the island’s inhabitant scholars, like ‘Isa al-Yemeni, Mu’allim ‘Aliyy, ‘Abdullah and others told him that the islands’ inhabitants were not Muslim, and that each month a demon from the devils would appear from the ocean. It was as if he was filled with lanterns. Their habit upon seeing him was to sacrifice a virgin girl, decorating her and placing her in the temple. This temple was built on the ocean’s beach. It had a window through which the demon would look in. They would leave her for one night and come in the morning to find her raped and dead. Each month they conducted a drawing amongst them, and the chosen one would sacrifice his/her daughter.
One day a Moroccan man, Abul Barakat al-Barbari, arrived at their islands. He used to memorize the Quran and he stayed at the house of an elderly woman amongst them. One day, he came in to find many of her relatives there crying as if someone died. He asked what was wrong but did not understand. A translator came and informed him that the old woman’s only daughter was chosen at the drawing to be sacrificed for the demon. Abul Barakat said, “I will go tonight instead of your daughter.” He had no beard, so they took him that night and left him in the temple. He had wudu’ ( ablution) and began reading Quran. When he saw the demon through the window, he continued reading. When the demon was close enough to hear the recitation it dove back into the sea.
Morning came and the Moroccan Muslim was still reciting. The old lady, her family, and the people of the island came to take the body of the girl and burn her, as was their habit. They found the Moroccan man reciting from the Quran and they took him to their king, Shanuzah, and told him what happened. He was amazed; the Moroccan told him to embrace Islam and made it appealing to him. so the king said, “Stay here for another month, and if you do the same thing and escape the demon again I will embrace Islam.”
The Moroccan stayed and God made Islam appeal to the king’s heart so he embraced Islam before the month passed. His family in its entirety and his subjects all embraced Islam as well. The next month the Moroccan was taken to the temple; the demon did not appear, and the Moroccan recited Quran till morning. The ruler came with the people to find the Moroccan reciting Quran; they broke the idols and demolished the temple. They embraced Islam and informed the rest of the islands in the Maldives chain of what happened and their inhabitants also embraced Islam. The Moroccan stayed among them, and they esteemed and exalted him. They learned and followed his school of thought, that of imam Malik, may God raise his rank. To this day, because of him, they highly esteem the Moroccans and there is a mosque named after him, on which is written on the wood of one compartment of that mosque Sultan Ahmad Shanuzah embraced Islam on the hand of the Moroccan Abul Barakat al-Barbariyy.

Maldives, known as a a tropical prime tourist destination due to its pristine beaches, is a country in South East Asia in the Indian ocean, comprised of hundreds of islands. The biggest Island is Male, the capital, where the mosque that the Sultan built is still in use, the Old Friday Mosque. The last renovation of this mosque was in 1656. The door and window frames are made from corals. Opposite to that mosque is the famous cemetery, the Medhuziyaaraiy, where Sheikh Abul Barakat's grave is located.

2. Yūsuf ibn Tāshufīn, Tāshufīn also spelled Tāshfīn, (died 1106), Almoravid ruler who, during his reign from 1061 to 1106, expanded Almoravid land holdings from a small, insecurely held area in the Maghrib into a huge empire that included major portions of present-day Morocco and Algeria, Muslim Spain as far north as Fraga, and the islands of Majorca, Minorca, and Ibiza. A Berber by origin, Ibn Tāshufīn was an excellent general and a devoutly religious ascetic who inspired his followers by example.

In 1061 Abū Bakr, who was then the leader of the Almoravids, went south into the desert to put down a tribal rebellion. He gave the command of his troops in the Maghrib to Ibn Tāshufīn, his cousin. Ibn Tāshufīn proved so popular that when Abū Bakr returned he relinquished his power. Ibn Tāshufīn went on to found Marrakech (c. 1062) and conquered almost all of Morocco and Algeria. The fall of Toledo in 1085 and increasing Christian aggressiveness led the divided Muslims of Spain to appeal for his aid. Ibn Tāshufīn inflicted a serious defeat on Alfonso VI of Castile at az-Zallaqah in 1086, but he returned to Morocco afterward. He returned to Spain in 1089 to begin his conquest in earnest. By the time of his death, Ibn Tāshufīn controlled virtually all of Muslim Spain.

The fact is that if we at least pray five times daily we will be able to overcome all our plights and difficulties whatever we are facing these days. I am taking this opportunity to quote some ahadith about five times prays along with above discussed subject.

VIRTUES OF SALAAH

Fajr Salaah: It has been narrated by Aisha (R.A.) that Nabi (S.A.W.) said: “The two Rak’aats of Fajr (Sunnah) is better than the entire world and whatever it contains. (Muslim)

Zuhr Salaah: Umme Habibah (R.A.) says: “I heard Rasoolullah (S.A.W.) saying: “Allah will make the fire of Hell Haraam on whoever observes the four Rak’aats before Zuhr and four Rak’aats (two Sunnah and two Nafl) after Zuhr.” (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)

Asr Salaah: It has been narrated by Ibne Umar (R.A.) that Nabi (S.A.W.) said: “May Allah shower mercy on that person who performs four Rak’aats before Asr.” (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)

Maghrib Salaah: Abu Hurairah (R.A.) narrates that Nabi (S.A.W.) said: “Whosoever performs six Rak’aats after the Maghrib Salaah and does not speak any evil in between, he will receive the reward of twelve years of ‘Ibaadah.” (Tirmidhi)

Eshaa Salaah: Whosoever performs Eshaa Salaah with Jamaat and performs four Rak’aats prior to leaving the Masjid will receive the reward of Laitul Qadr. (Tibraani)

Fajr and Asr Salaah: Umaarah bint Ruwaybah (R.A.) says: “I heard Nabi (S.A.W.) say: “That person who performs Salaah before sunrise and before sunset will never enter the fire.” (That is Fajr and Asr Salaah)

Eshaa Salaah: It has been narrated by Abu Hurairah (R.A.) that Nabi (S.A.W.) said: “There is no Salaah that is more burdensome on a Munaafiq (hypocrite) than the Fajr and Eshaa Salaah. If they knew the virtue of these Salaah they would perform them even if they had to come to the Masjid crawling.” (Bukhari, Muslim)

Maghrib Salaah: Abu Ayyub (R.A.) narrates that: “Did you hear Nabi (S.A.W.) say that: “My Ummah will continue to be on good or he said on Fitrah, as long as they do not delay Maghrib Salaah till the stars become apparent.” (Abu Dawood)

1. Jabir (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Between a man and disbelief and paganism is the abandonment of Salat (prayer)."

[Muslim].

Now, Here are more Hadiths that Imam Ahmed and others used to support their opinion :

2. Buraidah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "That which differentiates us from the disbelievers and hypocrites is our performance of Salat. He who abandons it, becomes a disbeliever."

[At-Tirmidhi].

3. It has been narrated on the authority of 'Auf b. Malik that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: The best of your rulers are those whom you love and who love you, who invoke God's blessings upon you and you invoke His blessings upon them. And the worst of your rulers are those whom you hate and who hate you and whom you curse and who curse you. It was asked (by those present): Shouldn't we overthrow them with the help of the sword? He said: No, as long as they establish prayer among you. If you then find anything detestable in them. You should hate their administration, but do not withdraw yourselves from their obedience.

[Muslim]
