What is Satan?

It is our selfish desire. The exalted Messenger is reported to have said, "Every person has a Satan/Iblis within." The noble companions asked, "Even you O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "Yes! I have made it Muslim". This obviously means that he had absolute control over his desires.


Where is Satan?


The exalted Prophet once said that everyone has a Satan/Iblis within. Sahaba Kiraam respectfully asked, “Even you O Rasullullah?” He said, “Yes, I have made him a Muslim.” [Muslim 2:153, Ibn Majah, 1:191]


So, the Satan is not an extrinsic entity, it is our own selfish, unchecked or rebellious desire.
