These days the forum is full of Pakistani Politics. Just to change the topic, does anyone know about the origins of this Idea that there has been 124000 Paighambars(messengers) sent to mankind.

Surah 16. An-Nahl – The Bee


An-Nahl signifies the Bee. The honeybee is a remarkable creature. It works hard through the processes of making honey and then turns up its labor for the common benefit of all. What a beautiful token of selflessness, and organized Way of Life!


16:69 “And then eat from fruits of all kind, and follow the ways that your Sustainer has made easy for you.” (God endowed the bee with navigational skills.) And then comes forth from their bellies a delicious drink of many hues, in which there is health for people. In all this, there is a message for people who are willing to listen. [Notice the female gender used throughout for bees. They are the worker bees. Interestingly, Shakespeare wrote: Honeybees are soldiers and they have a king]

I have always bveen confused by long names of these dreamers.When the Messenger had a simple and short name, why can't all Muslims follow the example. I will not even attempt to memorize the long name of Ibn Arabi. We should stick to the number of Messengers mentioned in the Quran. On the other hand, the message is more important than numbers.The number 124000 has become a part of the Muslim psyche.The sooner we get rid of it the better.
