QUESTION FROM A VIEWER: What is this 'marrying' of girls to the Quran?

ANSWER FROM SHABBIR: Assalam alaikum!

This deplorable practice is, fortunately, now very rare. A few so-called
Muslims in the province of Sindh, Pakistan, 'marry' their little daughters with
the Quran.

Background: Warren Hastings was a viceroy of the British India in the 19th
century. The Indians had a great but unsuccessful uprising to gain freedom from
the British in 1857. Many traitors helped the British government. They were
granted huge properties and agricultural lands by the British as bounty. Many
of those traitors became rich landlords overnight. But, soon they found their
holdings getting diluted among their offspring. Sons were no threat since the
properties remained in the family, but daughters were naturally taking their
share and lived apart with their husbands.

The chief Mullas came to the rescue of the feudal lords and issued edicts that
"marrying" of a daughter to the Quran would bring a shower of blessings to all.
What more could the guilty want?

Brahmans did the same to Hindus in Rajasthan, recommending young girls to
"marry" the holy Geeta. Today, they have about 10 such cases per year.

Lord Warren Hastings, instead of stopping, supported the cruel practice to
please the landlords. He was hanged on his return to England.

Today, about 1-2 cases of marriage to the Quran surface out every year. The
Pakistan government must take an uncompromising stand on this gross violation
of human/women rights.
