Why pork is Haraam?

A real quick but very important question - why pork (pig) is haraam?? I just can not find any "logical" reason besides it meat isnt healthy but hang on, Drs say that any red meat isnt good for health.

6:145 prohibited ...... lahmakhinzeerin fa-innahu rijsun the flesh of swine for that surely is Rijs

ر ج س = Ra-Jiim-Siin = state of commotion, confuse greatly, make a noise/sound, hinder/prevent, unclean/dirty/filthy, evil, something which is unlawful/forbidden, unbelief/infidelity/doubt.......

Note: Rijs doesn't mean unhealthy.

See this verse as well:

5:90 ياايها الذين امنوا انما الخمر والميسر والانصاب والازلام رجس من عمل الشيطان فاجتنبوه لعلكم تفلحون

In the above verse God says: intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up and (dividing by) arrows are Rijs, and the Shaitan's work; so avoid them.

If you read 9:95 you would see that it says Munafiqeen are Rijs and thus their abode is in Jahannum. For Munafiqeen, it also says, they have desease in their hearts. I feel their desease is the state of being Rijs and whatever is Rijs it creates a state of Jahannum. I don't know if I am clear enough but if you compare these and other occurances of the word Rijs it would be more clear.

9:125 واما الذين في قلوبهم مرض فزادتهم رجسا الى رجسهم وماتوا وهم كافرون
And as for those in whose hearts is a disease, it adds "Rijs" to their "Rijs" and they die while they are unbelievers.

Actually now the Right question would be:

WHY the flesh of swine is Rijs? Why intoxicants and games of chance and (sacrificing to) stones set up and (dividing by) arrows are Rijs? Remember Munafiqeen are also Rijs! People who do not believe 6:125, and people who do not use their intellect 10:100.

My understanding is that RIJS creates a state of Jahannum:(Jahannam refers to a State of mind that produces wrong results in this Life and the Next. )! That is why we should avoid all Rijs:

22:30 فاجتنبوا الرجس Avoid the Rijs!

انما يريد الله ليذهب عنكم الرجس 33:33 Allah only desires to keep away the Rijs from you.

For the Swine one can also ask- WHY God has created Swine in the first place? Poor little creature... huh

Many WHYS have been answerd and many would be revealed to us God willing by the time.

Rijz also means pollution, plague, impurity and it was also a name for a disease in the hinder part of camels.

I agree with Ahmed that the named Rijs are creating Jahannam, but they surely thus are unhealthy. Pigs eat everything, check any farm, they are the only animals with only metal buckets and feeders while the rest mostly has plastic. I have seen pigs eat the plastic rainpipe!

Pig's metabolism is also very different then that of most animals. A horse can eat grass and store it as normal healthy proteins and carbon in his body. Pigs on the other hand turn almost any sort of food into high cholestorol and substances that causes cancer in humans. Their meat contains the highest rate of parasites. The list is so long.

Also, Pig farms are the biggest polution creators. Pigs create large amounts of unusable waste and are a great load on the enviroment. In any way you look, pigs are unhealthy to keep as farmanimals and as food.

My sister is a food's specialist, and says the same thing, avoid pork. The substances of pig's meat are very unhealthy for our body, literally polluting it with dangerous substances that over time causes heart diseases, cancers or disease through parasites.

I do believe Rijs clearly refers to a physical pollution, just like Mushrikeen create a mental pollution in people's thinking and a physical pollution in the enviroment you live in by not having a correct social and economical system. They are all causes of diseases in society, be it mental, physical of the body or physical of the State affairs.

What do you think, if the pigs are only grass-fed and raised in a healthy environment? Are they halal then? And also do you think livestocks are all grass-fed in th farms? God never said pigs are Rijs and harmful for the environment so dont raise them and kill them all. Its only their MEAT which is Rijs. Not the poor little creature itself is Rijs.

Dear brother, you misread the post. Even if pigs only eat grass, their metabolism still will create the wrong hormones, cholesterol and substances that create cancer. What I point out is that whatever you feed them, their flesh and the substances will remain unhealthy for humans.

So pigmeat will stay unhealthy, as we cannot change their metabolism.

A horse can eat grass and store it as normal healthy proteins and carbon in his body. Pigs on the other hand turn almost any sort of food into high cholestorol and substances that causes cancer in humans.

Only PIGFARMS are very polluting, not the pig in general. Pigs do not lives in large groups in Nature, mostly solitairy or in small groups, thus their waste is not straining for nature.

But hundreds of pigs in one small area will create such large amounts of waste, it is very expensive to get rid of it, and it is very straining on the enviroment of that area.

And why are there pigfarms, because humans want their MEAT...pigfarms would not exist without the need for their meat. Banning the meat is immediately elaminating the need for pigfarms. 1+1=2

Many pigfarmers are even paid to turn into salmonfarms, as it is more profitable and more enviromentally friendly.

Pigs in itself are indeed not Rijs, but the need for eating their flesh is. It is polluting for the health of mankind and the direct enviroment. This is also why the need for eating their flesh is forbidden, not the pig itself.

In nature, the pig does no harm, only when it is put to use for feeding mankind. Which is the direct act that is forbidden. I also believe it is a great example by God to learn what is healthy for us and what is unhealthy for our enviroment and for our bodies.
